This is amazing, I read all the other reviews before buying this heater. I was skeptical about how good it really could be.
I connected it to an Intex 26’ pool 14k gallons. I had to buy a few connectors from the local plumbing store but installing it took an hour max.
Warm water came out instantly. First of all we ran it without a solar cover and it went from 78 to 82 in about a week. Then we added a cheap solar cover and it jumped to 88 in 2 days.
I considered buying 2 of these but I’m glad I didn’t because I wouldn’t have needed it.
I just have this rolled out on the grass next to the pool. It isn’t attached to anything, it’s just in a spot that gets about 8 hours of sun a day.
It is also very tough, the kids run over it now and again by accident, and it makes no difference.
I couldn’t recommend this more highly.

I have a 16’x32′ inground pool with good sun for approx 9 hours a day, we normally struggle to get the pool to 80°.
I had heard you need solar panels half the size of your pool for effective heating.
I was hesitant to go the solar heater route as I only had room for one panel.
I decided on the Fafco Solar Bear because of the postive reviews and the square footage (4’x20′)
One panel will not extend the swimming season or turn your pool into a hot tub but We have been rewarded with approx. 4° increase in temperature and many more swimmable days already. It is July 3, our pool temp is 84° today and we have already had many days above 80°.
I laid the panel on the ground along side of the pool over some landscape fabric. Installation was easy enough. I do recommend plenty of Teflon tape on the threads.
If you could use a few degrees warmer water and have room next to the pool, this solar heater will do the job nicely.

Bought 2 panels a year ago which is the proper size for my above ground pool & then some. Simply layed them out on the ground (on plywood) for a season for evaluation. On average they brought the pool up in temp by 5~10 deg. Located in central Florida. They extended the swimming season by 1~2 months. Decided that they’re worth further investment of a rack system. Thought about the design that is provided with the panels & decided, because of the wood construction & the many types of wood eating bugs here not to pursue that design. Decided to design a PVC pipe rack system as cheeply as possible without being weak. Completed 3 paper sketches of simular designs costed from parts on the web along w/ a trip to Home Depot & Lowe’s to stumble onto a 2” PVC pipe design that came in at around 300$ +/- 20$. Lowes won the “bid” hands down! Hose clamps to lightly “tension” the panels end to end worked great plus the straps provided w/ panels. Will use sand anchors to hold the “system” in place due to the occasional Florida windy day (hurricane). The evaluation continues through this year.
Btw: One panel came w/ straps that were too short & didn’t discover the problem till a couple weeks ago. Called Fafco to hear a message to call the vendor – Amazon. Called customer service @ Amazon & they were GREAT! They shipped a new panel, I extracted the proper straps & returned it without hassle or complaints. Amazon went completely above & beyond for this situation due to almost a year passing since the original purchase. THANK YOU AMAZON!

I was about to give this product zero stars because of all of the parts i had to go buy for it to work. And it took me a couple of really hard days to rig something together. With that being said, once i finally got ot working then it has been great since. I have an intex 16 x 32 foot pool, and it has warmed it up well. I wouldn’t go as far as it heating it up by 10 degrees, but it has warmed it up by about 6 degrees. We have had an unusually cold summer, so that might a factor as well.
I would have given this solar heater 5 stars had i not had all of the issues with all of the extra parts that I had to purchase.

We use 2 of these panels to heat our 33 feet diameter round aboveground pool in Wisconsin. We have our panels installed on the roof of a lean to located next to our pool. The panels typically raise the pool temperature 5 to 6 degrees each day which is enough to keep our aboveground pool a consistent temperature around 85 degrees after it warms up for the season. We loose about 4 to 6 degrees of temperature overnight depending on overnight temperatures. These panels are great to speed up the spring warming process so we can get into the pool sooner. Two 80+ sunny days in a row is enough to raise the temp in our pool from 70 degrees to 80 degrees and keep it there the rest of the summer. We tried other panel and none compare to these. They last about 3 to 5 seasons in our climate. We store them in our basement during winter months.

This product is well made and it works. For the money, I don’t think you can do better.
Install is simple if you can just lay it on the grass. But like anything worth doing, it’s a fair amount of work doing the plumbing. This is about as easy as it gets for effective DIY solar heating.
At least this one takes standard sized pvc adapters so it’s very simple to plumb.
Hints:
1. Install a cutoff valve in your plumbing rather than relying on the one they supply. That way you can remove the system plus it’s more efficient not to go all the way through their piping.
2. I have a 12×24 pool. This works but I could really use two of them to achieve as much heating as I’d like to have. As is, it’ll probably give me an extra month on either end of the season.

So after traveling for the last 3 weeks with the heater sitting in its box, I was able to get it installed. I turned on the pump and had a leak in the panel. after investigation, i found about 12 inches from the end a Small Tube Cut. I go to see warranty is and no information, try to set up a return and I am out side the 30-day window. I call Fafco and the refer me to another number ” Yes we make them, No we don’t support them” ?!# At this point I will wait to see if Someone will stand behind Fafco’s products. Until this is resolved I would be hard pressed to ever recommend this product due to the Quality issues right out of the box. too bad, it looks to have potential.
