I wonder what kind of wind it takes for this thing to actually move. It’s been sitting up there but no amount of wind gets it to move. The tail is too small too, blades to flimsy. Came without the necessary allen wrange to mount the blade……

    Green Solar Dude –

This wind turbine is the third I’ve owned over the last twenty years. It’s been up on a 30 foot tower a little over a month. It’s rated wind speed is 400 watts in a 29 mph wind. That’s a lot of wind. Because wind energy is a cube, if you halve the wind speed you get 1/8 the power. So at best, in a 14.5 mph wind, this turbine will produce just 50 watts. With line losses, my elevation above sea level and losses in the charge controller, I end up getting 42 watts. In an 8 mph wind it produces 6 watts. When the wind gets above around 22 mph the turbine gets loud. At 30 mph it’s screaming and the blades are fluttering and the noise is amazing. The included charge controller works fine, braking the turbine when battery voltage reaches 29 volts. You don’t need a diversion load. I can disconnect the turbine from the charge controller and brake it manually using a three pole, double throw switch (YXQ 400V 100 Amp 3 Pole Double Throw Electric Brake Safety Closing Switch). A mounting flange is included, you’ll have to weld it to your pipe. Some folks (like me) over-estimate how much wind we’re getting. If you’re not sure how much wind you get, check your local National Weather Service office. Better yet, get a hand-held anemometer for under $20 on Amazon. It may save you some disappointment. Summary: this turbine is lightweight and makes electricity.
Update 4/26/21: Machine still works fine but the most power I’ve ever been able to coax out of it is 112 watts with a 30+ mph wind. That’s because with any wind above 30 mph the blades bend and they are less aerodynamically efficient so the turbine won’t spin any faster. As noted above, the noise level above 30 mph is really loud.

No instructions or information on mounting. Suggestions or recommendations could’ve made this easier to install. It also stated that 7 mph wind was needed but 17 mph wind barely moved it. Too much time needed for a novice like me.

Easy to assemble. However I had to buy a pole and weld the provided round base to it. Then you mount the turbine on top. You also need to buy some cables to route from the top of the pole down to the charge controller inside your house.
I bought this to back up my solar panels in rainy and cloudy times. It helps us charge our batteries faster and helps us make it through the night in cloudy/ rainy days.
P.S. installed in Benin, West Africa
