    Thanks to the review by “Robert” I bought this unit and have it working perfectly on a solar system that handles the interment power needs of my refrigerator. I like the ability to set the voltages at which the unit transfers to grid power and the voltage at which it transfers to battery. The documentation is very poor and the vender’s website is no help. No electric cords come with the unit and you must wire your own. Robert’s review explains how to create the wires and how to set the transfer voltages, not the vender! I would give the vender a one star for their documentation. But the unit does work and so I have given it a 4 star review.

    First thing I noticed when I removed it from the box was that a couple tiny black screws were laying the the bottom of the clear bag the unit was in. Two of the screw holes on the side of the unit were missing screws. An attempt to re-install them failed. The screws appear to be too short to get a good grip in the metal backing plate or the hole was stripped out! Since the case and backing plate wasn’t falling apart I decided to ignore the issue. After installing the unit I noted that the battery voltage was reading 2 tenths of a volt lower then the battery charge controller reading. A multi meter reading at the connections confirmed charge controller voltage reading was correct and the transfer switch display reading was low. So when setting the battery transfer voltages I compensated for the lower reading in the transfer switch settings. The good new is that this unit is working good so far. It allows me to cycle my battery in a way that will extend it’s life and protect it from over discharging.

    This unit is a knock off and sometimes has the grid power and inverter power connected at the same time which blows out the inverter. I contacted Spartan and they said they would give my money back so I sent them the unit but now they won’t even answer my emails. I have two of these from another manufacture that look the same and work perfectly. Stay away from this company.

    This product works as intended. However…… There is a design flaw in it. When this device is connected everything works fine. There is however no safety if the inverter fails. You will need to add a relay in the system so that is something happens to the inverter it will interrupt the 12v line and switch over to shore power. The system as designed – if the inverter fails the transfer switch is still connected to the battery and if the battery is still in the defined voltage the transfer switch will not switch over and will continue to supply no power to any device attached to it. Now with the relay in the system if something happens to the inverter the relay will cut off the 12 volt line which will make the transfer switch move to shore power.   5. Oh-Well-Darn

    This simple automatic transfer switch is reasonably priced and easy to install. I’ve only noticed one small issue with this switch… The battery voltage readout is consistently low by at least half a volt (.5VDC). Both my solar charge controller and my inverter have digital displays showing the battery voltage and this switch always displays the battery voltage 1/2 volt lower. It’s not a big issue, but this problem has been noted in other customer reviews. It would be good if the manufacturer corrected this issue or had a trim-pot resistor or a way to tweek the display to match the actual battery voltage.

    This transfer switch does not come with any wires…you will have to connect or make pigtails out of a good quality extension cord or other electrical wiring depending on your application. I’m using this switch to toggle over to grid-tied utility power in the event that my 4000W inverter ever fails on my small off-grid (home) system or if the LiFePO4 batteries drop below the lower cutoff voltage should there be multiple days where the winter sun might not be strong enough for my solar panels to charge the batteries back to full capacity. The off-grid solar generator powers a large chest freezer and another upright refrigerator in my garage. Should one of the above mentioned conditions occur the switch will toggle over to utility grid power and keep the appliances running and the food at the proper temperatures. In the event of both inverter shutdown and a grid outage then it would be easy to wire power from a generator into this switch in place of the utility power connections. Of course in that case other options would be available too, such as connecting the two appliances directly to the generator outlets or using the generator and a battery charger to bring the batteries back up to full charge.

    All-in-all, for the price this is a very practical auto-transfer switch. The upper and lower toggle limits are easy to set from the front panel and the transfer time is so quick that devices connected to its output won’t even sense that there was any interruption at all. My chest freezer has an alarm and a flashing yellow indicator on it which warns if the power has been off for even a brief period of time. When this transfer switch toggles from inverter AC output to utility power the freezer never detects the transfer and the warning light never comes on. Online demos of this switch show running a computer off of inverter power and then allowing the transfer switch to toggle over to utility power and the computer never locked up or even noticed the transfer. Except for the small issue with the battery voltage display, I highly recommend this device.

    Garbage and not safe, tripped the GFCI on my inverter multiple times over the course of a couple weeks until it finally ruined my inverter. When it was working the transfer time was no where near as quick as they stated, noticeable delay when switching from Inverter to AC and vice versa. It’s a shame because I’ve been looking for something like this for awhile.
