This is actually on the outside of my workshop for building computers (ie, wood siding). It’s not painted or primed, so if it’s exposed it must be painted. UV breaks down plastic, not heat, so PAINT it. I’ve converted entirely to solar and am running the 10 ga. wire through this from the panels to the battery…and they fit like a glove when the nuts are tightened even slightly. This thing works very well, seals tight, and is well made. A little caulking all the way around on the flange that butts to the surface of the wood, a coat of paint the next day and it’s as watertight as it can be.

The nuts are a little close together, so you may need a wrench to tighten them if you have bigger fingers..not a lot of room to work right there. I’d use silicone on a smooth surface, boat or RV, but keep in mind silicone is NOT paintable unless it’s labeled so (silicone/acrylic).

    Amazon Customer –

The product wasn’t quite as described; it was a two port device and the information said that for single port use, one port could be blocked with the included parts. That was not the case so I contacted the manufacturer via their website. Their response was immediate (a couple of minutes) and they promised a single port replacement no, charge. They also said I could keep the two port unit.

The replacement had to be shipped from China and much to my surprise arrived in about nine days. I installed it yesterday and the quality is good.

I can’t say enough good things about their customer service.

I figured that at the price, I could always get a better quality replacement if this turned out to be a disappointment; what a surprise this turned out to be! It seems strong enough to be able to mount well to my unit’s roof easily while sealing the entry port thoroughly.

The gland seals are quite flexible, so I expect they will seal very well. The housing is not drilled for mounting, but this is a good thing. You can determine the best place for screws in your installation and drill accordingly. If you decide not to use screws, taping the housing to the roof or wall should be easily accomplished with no screw holes to weaken the tape’s grip. Were I to make another installation, this would be my preferred way of passing cables through my roof sealing water on the outside. The size is jusssst right.

A good simple unit, with some nice touches and a couple of small issues.
This ABS case is well designed, with the helpful touch of being sized to serve to keep the inner nuts from spinning (see photo 1). The 3mm (eighth inch) wall thickness makes it extremely sturdy.
The two issues are: (1) one of the mold’s injection points is very close to one edge, making that spot slightly less effective as a seal (but sealant compound or butyl tape will fill it nicely). (2) Lack of instructions left me guessing as to where the sealing gaskets on the M20M fittings should go: inside or outside? If outside (like the product photo shows), the gasket is distorted as it wraps around the shape of the box (see photo 2). Tightening the nut pulls it away from the threads on that side. Placing the gasket inside (photo 3) appears to create a good seal, but now the un-gasketed outer fitting has wicking opportunities for water, which could lead to problems during freeze/thaw cycles. Again, enthusiastic application of sealing compounds will be the probable solution.

The unit is made of thick solid plastic material. I mounted it by drilling 3 holes for #10 x 1″ pan-head screws. I used butyl tape between the item and the roof to minimize the chance of leakage. I intend to use Dicor lap sealant on the seams for further waterproofing. My only complaint relates to the cable attachments. Since the ends have to be tightened so as to crimp the seal around the cable, if not really careful, the entire attachment piece can come loose, since the attachment piece is held in place with two plastic nuts (one on each side of the unit.). I think I may end using some PVC cement to lock the internal nut in place. That way the attachment gasket won’t be able to slip and become loose (not water tight).

I was looking for a clean way to install the wires on a solar project for my camper, this did the job perfectly!

This is a pretty nice item! I installed this beneath a solar panel on the upper deck of my boat & the design allows for the wires to enter the unit horizontally (parallel to the deck) as opposed to vertically. A hint, I used 3M VHB tape to bond the unit to the deck, and then 3M 4200 sealant/caulk around the edges to waterproof install. Allows for a pretty clean installation.

Just over two years in it leaked. My RV has a rubber roof. Thankfully it penetrated the roof into a cabinet and I noticed the drips.

The rubber behind the screw fittings for the wires rotted. The base was sealed with Dicor lap sealant and is in great shape.

I heavily regret recommending this product to other RVers. If it can’t take two years on a roof it is junk.
